Retreat & Conference Center
Pacific Palisades, California

Palisades Lutheran Church’s envisioned retreat and conference center is now open hosting the Oikonomia conference series, the Greek term for household management (God’s house). The mission of Palisades Lutheran Church is to share, serve, equip and be generous through the abundant life in Christ (John 10:10). The vision of Palisades Lutheran Church is to become a retreat and conference center of choice for serving, training and equipping ministry teams (Ephesians 4:12).

Oikonomia team retreats and conferences are designed for congregational ministry teams to be rejuvenated by structured and unstructured time in peaceful Pacific Palisades, one mile from the Pacific Ocean. Oikonomia retreats offer an opportunity for any ministry team to gather together to focus on God, faith, and learning about shared ministry on the frontlines. If your team is looking to grow closer to God and reinvigorate your ministry's shared household management, these retreats are for you.

Retreats begin with 11am check in and lunch at noon on Fridays and end with noon lunch on Sunday. The 3-day retreat includes theology, theory & practicums. The 1-day conference includes theology and theory only.

We are offering one OIKONOMIA Teaming Retreat in 2024. A 3-day retreat.

September 20 to September 22, 2024.

Please Call Joe Ramirez at 310-479-2358 for more information.

  • Topic: The Art & Practice of Congregational Healing.

  • History is important. Our church history is part of "His-story". Team ministry is influenced daily by our story together.

  • The timeline practicum is a living document. The stickers literally place participants on the timeline, making it a living document. More will be added. Ministries come and go according to God's grace. Themes and patterns are revealed.

  • The timeline can be equated to a family genogram. The timeline illustrates when congregational families were passionate about a ministry or major event, a time of joy, or of growth. Or it may give opportunity to grieve and heal from a time when family members were cutoff, distanced, enmeshed, or being a bit rebellious.

  • Use this time to relax, bond and reconnect in common purpose and mission!

01

TO STRENGTHEN Teams & Appreciate God's Design of Interconnectedness

Retreats are designed to celebrate each ministry's strengths, identify what may need to be improved, and encourage each ministry to avoid over- or under-functioning. Retreats encourage a shared stewardship approach so that ministry teams find new ways to partner and collaborate in ministry, avoiding silos and fragmentation (1 Cor. 12:25-27; Eph. 4:12-13).

03

TO IMPROVE Stewardship of Congregational Resources

Retreats will provide leaders new ideas and resources to align the resources God has provided according to His mission and the congregation's vision (Matt. 28:18). Each practicum is designed to link ministry decisions to the congregation's overall goal of loving people and saving souls (John 3:16-17).

02

TO LEAD the Congregation into the Balcony

Retreats will make your ministry plan explicit and the congregation's mission, vision, and core values prominent. Through "others awareness" leaders will be able to articulate internal customs and value propositions of each ministry in relationship to one another. Through collaboration, leadership teams will provide new insights for strategy development when evaluating ministry interventions like partnerships, mergers and legacy plans.

04

TO INCREASE Participation in God's Mission, Feeding the Sheep and Reaching the Lost

Retreats will foster opportunities for the emergence of new leadership (1 Tim. 4:12) and for spiritual growth (Eph. 5:16). Leaders will become self-aware and make significant and enduring improvements through leverage, "not through large scale efforts, but from small well-focused actions" (Peter Senge). (Eph. 4:8.)
